Mesa is now the third largest city in Arizona with more than 452,000 residents. Its low crime rate, excellent schools, diverse housing options, low unemployment, sunny climate and convenient location--just 30 minutes southeast of downtown Phoenix--appeal to families, retirees and winter residents alike. The Phoenix/Mesa metro area averages 320 sunny days per year, and residents make the most of outdoor living. Close to the Tonto National Forest where you can enjoy camping, horseback riding, off-road ATV trails and Jeep tours.
There are 20 golf courses in Mesa, part of the whopping 200 courses in the Valley of the Sun. And if you enjoy boating, there is a chain of four beautiful, deep water lakes just minutes away where you can enjoy fishing, sailing, or power boating. The city’s amenities include over 50 parks and diverse cultural activities appealing to families as well as active adults. Downtown Mesa features unique stores and businesses, the Mesa Convention Center, sidewalk sculptures and special events. The Mesa Symphony is housed in the Mesa Arts Center , the largest arts complex in Arizona. In addition to performing arts, the Center features contemporary art exhibits and Art Studio classes. Sports fans will enjoy Cactus League Spring Training , baseball training camps, and more than 20 golf courses. Mesa has several regional shopping malls with anchors such as Dillards, Macy's Robinson-May, Sears, Penney's, Target and WalMart. Convenient neighborhood shopping centers as well as targeted upscale shopping centers are found everywhere. There's even a Bass Pro Shop for the outdoorsman due to open late 2007. Much of Mesa still retains its hometown charm.
