Chandler, the high-tech oasis of the Silicon Desert located in the southeastern part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, is one of the fastest-growing urban centers in the nation. Chandler-Gilbert Community College is one of the most rapidly expanding facilities in the Maricopa Community College System. In downtown Chandler, the Western International University Campus offers training and advanced degrees in a number of areas. The largest privately owned university, University of Phoenix, also has a Chandler campus. Arizona State University is located just 15 miles north of Chandler; and the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University are within two-hour driving distances.

Chandler’s parks and recreation system has received numerous awards for its programs, facilities, and philosophy of the importance of offering a wide variety of amenities to the community. The latest award, the Arizona Parks and Recreation Outstanding Facility Award, was received for the Hamilton Aquatic Center. Chandler’s planning includes developing one neighborhood park in each square mile of the city.

Chandler is a very safe community and was named the safest city in the state and the 74th-safest city in the country by a national research firm. Chandler is the first city in the world to boast accredited police, communications and fire departments.

A passion for the performing arts is reflected in the 1,600-seat Chandler Center for the Arts which features performances by leading artists in ballet, opera, Broadway, comedy, dance and more.
